I picked up a set of plans for the Marsh-Monster layout boat. Bought all of the wood yesterday. Cut out all of my decking last night. Can't wait to start seeing it come to life. They say it takes around 100 hours, so hopefully I'll have it done in a couple of months.

I'll take some pics as I go.

Has anyone on here built their own layout? I'd be really interested in any tips/help with fiberglassing.

Please take lots of pics of the process, I have been thinking about building one and would love to see how it goes. I also second checking out and joining duckboats.net They are great group of guys, couple pointers though, they are little more formal over there. You have to use your real name (or form of it) for your login, they also like when you introduce yourself. But if you follow those simple rules they will help you with any problem that might arise. Good luck with the boat.

Is anyone in the Milwaukee area familiar with fiberglassing? One of the first construction steps is fiberglassing a couple of joints and I have never done it. I will do my research online, but if anyone would be willing to give pointers, it would be much appreciated.

It is fairly easy. I have done some repair jobs on a couple different boats. Don't make too much epoxy mix at one time, make sure you wear gloves and clothes you don't care about, some people like to apply a layer of epoxy then lay the fiberglass on top then more fiberglass, I've tried that but perfer to lay the fiberglass down then spread the epoxy over the top of it. Make sure to smooth it out nice and easy and you don't need as much as you think, just enough to cover the fiberglass

I'm about a week away from giving the boat a final paintjob. I figure I have about 90 hours into it so far. Everything is built. The bottom is fiberglassed - now I just have to sand the apron and glass the top of the boat. It's been a good learning experience - I probably spent closer to $500, but bought good product and some tools that I can use on boats down the road. I'll get pics up one of these days.

I did. Took me about 120 hours.

She floats nicely on her lines.
